Alexander Zverev has beaten the Rafael Nadal King of Clay on his favourite court in his home country.
6-4, 6-4 wins for Zverev were produced as a result of a fantastic dominanat service game throughout the match, Nadal was forced to lob up most of Zverev's 1st serves with unusually high contact points and net clearance often giving the German more than enough time to put the ball away. Zverev winning every service game, most within 3-4 minutes.
This allowed him to crank up the pressure returning Nadal's serve, which had a roughly 2 minute long length on average. Nadal held steady and saved a lot of break points throughout the matcch. But the constant pressure applied by Zverev being faster to get to balls, and whipping them far harder back was good enough to find one break in each set which was all he needed serving as well as he did.
A fantastic win for Zverev
